i was an 11 year venerable when the events in this movie took position. col. marcus was often a guest at our house, prior to going to wait on israel. my father was a member of the nypd, and was one of the pallbearers for col. marcus. in addition to that, he was also enthusiastic in helping the israelis salvage weapons [pistols, ammo, and radios]. i saw this movie whwn it 1st came out, and memories were refreshed. i also visited israel, and went to latrun and up the ‘burma road’ to jerusalem. to this day, there are the remnants of military vehicles destroyed in battle by the arab forces, which entirely out manned and outgunned the fledgling israeli army. one of the results of col. marcus’ untimely death was the mandatory learning of hebrew for all novel immigrants, no exceptions! despite all the negative reviews, this reviewer knew col. marcus, and other fighters for the fledgling israeli army. this review refers to the book, the mask version, and the vhs tape. it is worth buying this movie.
First off, this film contains a rousing glean by Elmer Bernstein. It is incandescent. Melville Shavelson wrote and directed this sprawling biographical action characterize about (Colonel) “Mickey” Marcus (Kirk Douglas), a West Point graduate and an adviser to President Roosevelt during W.W.II, who, at the query of the Israelis, went to there in the slow 40s to re-organize their army. In this chronicle, based on a book by Ted Berkman, Mickey Marcus is the master strategist who leads the Israelis to victory in the war with the Arabs. Melville Shavelson admires him, making him the frigid but enigmatic leader. Shavelson is very keen to please the audience enough to throw in numerous guest stars, such as Frank Sinatra and Yul Brynner, and agonizes over Mickey’s proper conflict between Angie Dickinson, the wife he leaves at home in the U.S., and Senta Berger, the female warrior he takes up with. Even those willing to net the hours of incoherence and banality may recoil at the obscenity of being asked to experience the horrors of Dachau as reflected in John Wayne’s bleary eyes. It also features Topol, James Donald, Stathis Giallelis, Ruth White, Gordon Jackson, Luther Adler, Gary Merrill, and Jeremy Kemp. Accept the soundtrack.

I cherish this DVD! Rodney Yee DVD’s from Gaiam have become some of my approved practices. You really need to know a bit about yoga (like the warrior series) before you do this practice. There are no detailed instructions, so I deem it would be disappointing for a beginner.

I loved the promenade of this practice. Yes, the sun salutations are a bit expeditiously, but is okay since this warms you up for the floor stretches to follow. He holds you in downward facing dog to rest, but I assume the crawl is perfect to warm you up snappy. It is a short workout of only 30 min., but perfect for those days when I don’t have a lot of time. You will definitely win the flexibility on the floor postures after the warm up.
I consume Rodney’s “Power Yoga Total Body” which I cherish too, but it is 1 hour. This practice is very similar, but 1/2 the time. You really can’t go bad on this one for $7 on Amazon.

It is beautifully filmed in Joshua Tree which brings encourage memories for me of rock climbing in the 70’s…

I have several Rodney Yee DVDs and this is one of my favorites. I am 52 years dilapidated and, although I have always exercised and been active, I have never been very flexible. This one is perfect for warming up your body and sharp it impartial enough so that you safely increase your flexiblility. I have been doing yoga videos for over 4 years starting with Rodney’s AM/PM. I have recommended Rodney’s ” Succor Care Yoga” to my contemporaries as a wonderful starting video and am now recommending this one as the next step. I admire his tranquil scream, the quiet locations and (with this one expecially) the relaxing meditative endings.

With laughs and gross-outs aplenty, Slither is the best horror comedy since Shaun of the Dead. Having written for the jubilant trash-mongers at Troma Films before scripting 2004’s well-received remake of Dawn of the Dead, writer-director James Gunn crafted this hilarious splatter-fest as an homage to the comically violent horror films of the 1970s and ’80s, and he gets it just right with a low-budget look, perfect casting, grisly make-up effects and judicious use of CGI gore. The story’s a deliberate monster-mash, borrowing from a dozen other movies with its plot about an invasion of slithery slug-like parasites from outer space, arriving (via meteorite) in the redneck town of Wheelsy, South Carolina, where they turn most of the local yokels into flesh-eating zombies. The first victim (played by Michael Rooker) turns into a squid-like, multi-tentacled host monster (kill him and you kill ‘em all), and his terrified wife (Elizabeth Banks) teams up with Wheelsy’s sheriff (Nathan Fillion, from Firefly and Serenity) and mayor (comedic scene-stealer Gregg Henry) to eradicate the alien threat before Wheelsy turns into Slugville. Gunn handles comedy and horror with exuberant flair, and Slither’s greatest strength is that it never aspires to be anything more than it is: 96 minutes of good laughs and grusomeness, served up with the kind of gleeful abandon that only tru horror buffs can fully appreciate.–Jeff Shannon
